How to drive innovation and build user-centric software

Meet David Nilsson, Product Owner, and Moa Johansson, UX Designer, from the Mobilaris Site™ product team as they share their insights on creating the right conditions for innovation and developing software that truly meet the needs of real users.

A team that owns the product together

Software development isn’t just about writing clean code — it’s about solving real problems and creating meaningful solutions for users. Our Mobilaris Site™ team embodies this philosophy with a diverse group of full-stack developers, UX designers, and a product owner, forming a fully cross-functional DevOps team.

Daily standups and ongoing communication ensure we stay in sync, sharing product ownership and tackling challenges collaboratively. With complete openness, everyone knows the different aspects of the product, allowing us to leverage each team member’s expertise for problem-solving. We run two-week sprints and embrace early feedback as a cornerstone of our development process. Transparency isn’t just a buzzword for us — it’s how we operate, sharing progress and hurdles with the broader organization to keep everyone aligned and up to date.

Putting the users at the heart of development

User focus drives every decision we make. Our process is built around truly understanding the users, and we maintain continuous communication with the customers and sales team to stay up-to-date and aligned. Whenever possible, we visit customer sites to experience their environment firsthand and better understand the users’ daily work.

As part of our process, we create user stories to capture diverse perspectives, ensuring that every role at the customer’s organization is represented. Whether it’s the decision-maker, the visionary person pushing for change, or the person who interacts with our solutions daily, we strive to build a holistic view of the user journey. These insights guide our development, helping us tailor our solutions to unique environments, from complex underground facilities to specific zones at industrial plants.

Our iterative approach means we’re never waiting for perfection before getting feedback. By slicing tasks into small increments and continuously testing with users, we ensure our solutions evolve in the right direction. Each feedback loop sharpens our work and drives us to adjust quickly.

Creating the right environment for innovation

But the real magic lies in company culture. We embrace a culture where collective ownership and collaboration are key. We believe that great products are born in environments where people feel engaged, included, and empowered. Everyone has a voice, and challenging the status quo is encouraged. We actively fight the “fear of failure” by fostering a safe space for experimentation and creativity. Testing and learning isn’t a milestone — it’s a mindset.

At the end of the day, we have fun. We celebrate our wins, learn from our setbacks, and push the boundaries of what we can achieve. Because building world-class products isn’t just about writing great code — it’s about building the right culture and teams that thrive together.
