Are you ready? New regulations for storage of pressure equipment are now in place.

On January 1, 2025, new regulations came into effect regarding storage and handling of pressure equipment. Many industrial companies need to adapt to meet the Swedish Work Environment Authority's stricter requirements for traceability, documentation, and risk assessment for ensuring safety in areas prone to explosions.

The new regulations include updates to the rules for pressure vessels and other pressurized equipment, such as tanks, vacuum vessels, pipelines, and process vessels. These objects share one critical feature: they are subjected to pressure which means an increased risk of explosion. Failures in such equipment can pose significant dangers to nearby individuals.

Key updates in the new regulations

Previously, organizations were required to constantly monitor pressure equipment to enable immediate risk analysis. The new rules introduce additional requirements, including:

  • Risk assessments. Businesses must implement risk analyses for storage areas and ensure that no hazards are associated with the usage and location of equipment.
  • Increased control. Organizations must demonstrate that all pressure equipment and vessels are regularly inspected and stored according to specified safety standards.
  • Traceability and documentation requirements. Complete traceability is mandatory to ensure that equipment is used, stored and maintained correctly – all must be thoroughly documented.

New rules, new challenges

The new regulatory changes require companies to take a more proactive approach to avoid fines or operational shutdowns. Key challenges include ensuring full traceability and maintaining continuously updated risk assessments. At large worksites, managing this manually or with outdated systems can be difficult. Without the right tools, companies risk missing critical inspections, misplacing equipment, or using it improperly.

Digital solutions simplifies compliance

The Swedish Work Environment Authority’s new regulations require organizations to establish new routines and adopt new technologies. Digital locating solutions can play a crucial role in streamlining the transition and ensuring compliance:

  • Real-time asset tracking – Track the location of pressure equipment across the entire facility, reducing time spent searching.
  • Digital documentation – Centralize and store all maintenance and inspection records digitally to meet documentation requirements efficiently – without time-consuming manual paperwork.
  • Set up safe storage zones – Ensure that your storage areas do not pose safety risks to nearby personnel. Monitor intrusions and track the movement of objects within these designated safety zones to maintain a secure environment.
  • Data collection for reporting – Generate a digital log or list of equipment status and location, simplifying inspection processes.

Real-time tracking of critical objects’ location and status

Mobilaris Asset Tracking provides a digital location solution for real-time tracking of critical objects and equipment, indoors and outdoors. The solution helps you to comply to the new requirements for pressure equipment storage. Also, it allows you to streamline operations, leading to long-term cost savings and enhanced safety.
